Project Co-ordinator

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the community. As a Volunteer Project Co-ordinator, you'll help oversee the day-to-day running of the shop, support our amazing team of volunteers, and ensure customers have a welcoming experience.

About Us

Lucy’s Pantry is a community grocery shop supporting individuals and families across Walsall who are experiencing financial hardship. By providing affordable food, reducing food waste, and connecting people to wider community support, the pantry helps local residents access essential groceries with dignity and choice. Alongside food provision, Lucy’s Pantry works with a range of partners to promote wellbeing, reduce social isolation, and strengthen community resilience.

The Role

To support in leading the day-to-day operations of Lucy’s Pantry, ensuring it runs smoothly as both a community shop and hub. You’ll oversee volunteers, manage stock and finances, support members directly, and coordinate community-building activities that connect people and reduce food waste. You’ll play a key part in creating a warm, inclusive space for all who walk through our doors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support in running the daily operations of Lucy’s Pantry, including supporting members on the shop floor.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, ensuring rotas are covered and the team is supported.
  • Oversee stock management, donations, and deliveries, including rotation and waste reduction.
  • Handle cash, card payments, memberships, and budgets accurately.
  • Manage the community space, including bookings and in-house events.
  • Coordinate and integrate wider initiatives such as cooking classes, gardening, and recipe programmes.
  • Build strong relationships with members, local partners, funders, and suppliers.
  • Ensure effective communication, accurate records, and monitoring of the pantry’s impact.
  • Use creativity and digital tools to improve operations and strengthen community engagement.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in retail, community work, or a related field.
  • Experience managing or coordinating staff or volunteers.
  • Skilled in stock management, inventory control, and cash handling.
  • Confident using POS (Point of Sale) systems for transactions and reporting.
  • Confident using Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word) and digital tools (e.g., social media, spreadsheets, booking systems).
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with charities, social enterprises, or community food projects.
  • Lived experience reflecting the communities we serve.
  • First Aid or Food Hygiene training (or willingness to undertake).
  • Experience in partnership working, fundraising, or project development.
  • Experience planning and coordinating activities, events, or community initiatives.
  • Experience in retail, food projects, or other community-focused roles.
  • Comfortable working flexibly, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Passionate about food justice, reducing waste, and supporting the community.
