Community Champions - Let’s Chat

Volunteers are needed to assist in delivering our Let’s Chat – Tackling Loneliness with Transport project.  We are looking for individuals to befriend visitors using our Let’s Chat hubs for a couple of hours each week.

You can choose to work either in our Walsall or West Brom Bus Station Hubs.

Hubs operate between 10am & 3pm Monday – Friday and volunteers would chat to visitors, support activities, serve refreshments, and assist staff in signposting users to other voluntary services available in the area.

An ideal voluntary position for anyone who likes to chat and help others!

Walsall Community Transport

Walsall Community Transport

Established in 1993, Community Transport is a registered charity providing a broad range of transport services, whether that is group travel for other voluntary and community groups, dial-a-ride minibuses for people with disabilities or other mobility problems, or community bus routes that would not otherwise exist because they are not commercially viable.

Community Transport encourages the empowerment and involvement of its communities to influence and determine services through active volunteering.

Volunteers will assist in delivering our Tackling Loneliness with Transport project. We are looking for individuals to drive those experiencing loneliness on day trips and using our shopping service.

To keep costs as affordable as possible for them we rely on the support of our team of volunteer drivers to provide this service. Our volunteers can choose the type of organisations they wish to support i.e. elderly

groups, sports groups, young people etc and the distance they are comfortable travelling. Some of our drivers only like driving
in the local Walsall area, some however like to go further afield to Llandudno, Bridgnorth, NEC, Derbyshire for example.

As a Charity we rely on our volunteers giving up their free time and it is also important to us that our volunteers enjoy what they do for their local community and it is flexible to fit in with their lifestyle, family needs and holidays.

Happy volunteers are our priority
We provide full training to our volunteers to understand what is expected, how they can ask for support and what they need to help others in their volunteering role. As a volunteer driver we also train you to drive a minibus through the MiDAS driver awareness scheme, our less mobile individuals may require the use of a passenger lift to access the vehicle and full training on the use of all equipment is given as part of our induction. We also pay travel expenses, so you are not out of pocket coming to and from the charity and you get a meal allowance if you are out on a day trip.
