Play Support Worker
Role details and requirements
Project focus
Supporting individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions through engaging and meaningful play activities during support sessions.
Purpose of the role
To create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable play environment that encourages social interaction, creativity, and emotional well-being for individuals with neurodevelopmental conditions. Volunteers will work alongside staff to support play-based activities that help participants develop skills, express themselves, and build positive connections.
Key responsibilities
• Support and encourage individuals to participate in structured and free play activities.
• Facilitate inclusive play opportunities tailored to a range of needs, interests, and abilities.
• Assist staff in setting up and tidying play spaces and materials.
• Provide positive encouragement, reassurance, and gentle guidance to participants.
• Observe and respond sensitively to the needs and preferences of individuals.
• Promote an environment of respect, patience, and acceptance.
• Communicate effectively with staff, other volunteers, and participants.
Commitment
• Hours to be agreed based on availability.
• Sessions are typically Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 and 7 pm, Wednesdays between 9:30 am and 2 pm.
• Volunteers are asked to commit for at least 3–6 months to provide consistency for participants.
Support & training
• Induction and role-specific training (e.g., safeguarding, understanding neurodevelopmental needs).
• Ongoing supervision and support from project staff.
• Opportunities to learn new skills and develop confidence in inclusive play support.
