Volunteer Independent Advocate (10)
Role details and requirements
To enter into a partnership with a disabled or vulnerable person who requires the support of an independent advocate to be enabled to speak up about their wishes, to be listened to and to access services as they require.
- To agree to respect confidentiality in the advocacy partnership in line with the Advocacy Matters Confidentiality policy.
- To agree to support the advocacy partner to speak up about an issue in their life.
- To agree to ensure the advocacy partner is at the centre of all volunteer advocacy work.
- To agree to empower the advocacy partner and where possible promote self advocacy.
- To always remember that advocates do not give advice but inform advocacy partners of the available options to enable the partner to make informed choices and decisions about their own life.
- To agree to focus on the Advocacy Plan and ensure this is reviewed.
A DBS will be required, the organisation will pay for this. Volunteer expenses will be reimbursed.
The role is flexible ideally with a minimum of 2hrs a week.
