NHS Volunteering

Volunteering

Our volunteers are invaluable and irreplaceable, giving their time ‘freely’ through the support they give to our staff and more importantly, our patients. They help us to improve the patient and carer experience.

Volunteering provides an amazing opportunity to meet new people and continue using existing and developing new skills. Many volunteers feel that supporting the trust enables them to give back to the organisation, when at times they have received care themselves.

Application

To apply for volunteering opportunities at Walsall healthcare visit the website.
All applications are made through the better impact website.

Selection process

After reviewing applications, we will invite applicants to a selection event or interview. Here we will ask about why you want to be a volunteer and what skills and expertise you can bring to the role. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you have.

Pre-volunteering checks

All successful applicants will need to complete pre-volunteering checks. This includes identity checks, referencing and a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Volunteering induction

Once all pre-volunteering checks have been complete, you will be invited to a trust volunteering induction. This may be virtual or in person. This will include core volunteer training and a trust welcome.

Starting

Once you have completed all the above and attended your induction you are able to start your new volunteering role.

Organisation

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides local general hospital and community services to around 270,000 people in Walsall and the surrounding areas.

They are the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, providing inpatients and outpatients at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development of the Pleck Road site was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust has state of the art operating theatres, treatment areas and equipment.

They provide high quality, friendly and effective community health services from some 60 sites including Health Centre’s and GP surgeries. Covering Walsall and beyond, the multidisciplinary services include rapid response in the community and home-based care, so that those with long-term conditions and the frail elderly, can remain in their own homes to be cared for.

The Trust’s Palliative Care Centre in Goscote is the base for a wide range of palliative care and end of life services. Teams, in the Centre and the community, provide high quality medical, nursing and therapy care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as offering support for their families and carers.
