Changing Our Lives is a rights based organisation based in the West Midlands. We work mainly with disabled people and people with mental health difficulties on a range of projects, all with the aim of improving people’s quality of life.
Safe Places currently operates in Sandwell and Wolverhampton. It is a scheme where vulnerable people carry a card with a Safe Places logo on it. In buildings throughout the community (e.g. library, local shop, Asda, community centre) the Safe Places logo is displayed. Changing Our Lives work with people so they understand that if they get into trouble in the community, they recognise the Safe Place logo and know they can go into the Safe Place for help to make a phone call to someone they know.
The scheme is currently being widened to include Walsall and Changing Our Lives would be interested to hear from any community locations that could become a Safe Place, or for local people to recommend suitable Safe Places. We will also meet with any local groups to discuss Safe Places.
