On September 14th, a brand-new project launched at The Hub in Walsall. The project, somewhat aptly, named Grit has the aim of providing support for men in Walsall that suffer from mental health issues (and is also open to those who don’t). It has been funded for the next 24 weeks and we hope many men access the project and support it beyond this timeframe.
During its informative launch, they identified the lack of appropriate mental health support for men in Walsall, this was something that particularly resonated with me. The completely volunteer-led project’s aim is to act as a link between organisation’s offering support activities such as sport or gardening and mental health services for men. I believe the informal space to engage and friendly nature of those leading will enable the project to grow naturally and successfully.
The event was fun with a variety of board games, a retro computer games stand, where I played Sonic the Hedgehog for the first time in 20 years.
Overall the event offered much needed hope to vulnerable men in Walsall.
