Walsall Council’s Community, Equality and Cohesion team has nurtured a number of linking projects between schools and places of worship over the past 3 years.
One hugely successful link has been between the congregations of The Crossing at St Pauls and Al-Farouq Mosque, Palfrey. From simple picnics, exchange visits and joint trips, the two faith communities recently decided to host a cricket match in Palfrey Park.
Walsall for All is one of five national pilot programmes launched by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to try and improve cohesion, integration and social mixing between communities. Walsall for All team members participated in the cricket competition and sponsored a trophy for the winning team.
Imran Suddle, Programme Manager for Walsall for All commented “linking between diverse places of worship is a very organic, grassroots activity that Walsall for All has been proud to support. The Mosque won this time round but I daresay there will be opportunities for the Church to win it back!”
