Citizens Advice Walsall – Family Matters Newsletter
Welcome to our first newsletter.
We would like to share with you some information about what we are doing on the Family Matters project and the journey of some our participants.
The project supports people who are unemployed and would like to get into volunteering, training or employment– but there are barriers in their way!
The project provides stability through advice work and support with employability skills. We are actively seeking referrals so please do not hesitate to contact us.
We attend fortnightly venues across the Black Country at:
Citizens Advice- Walsall
Sure Start Palfrey—Walsall
Dr Sharma’s Practice– Bilston
Gatis Community Space– Wolverhampton
Albion House– Brierley Hill
The Gap Centre– West Bromwich
Lyng Job Club– West Bromwich
Participant P came to the UK from Italy with her 2 dependant daughters . P moved to the Midlands due the high cost of living in London.
P had no income and was relying on dwindling savings. P was also having difficulty getting one of her daughters into school. The above issues were preventing P from being able to look for employment.
We supported P by identifying entitlement and assisting with claims for various benefits , stabilising her income, and allowing her to focus on seeking work. We encouraged P to access the school admissions team and a school place was secured.
P actively started job seeking and attended a training course– this led to P securing full time employment in March!
